The Story of The MilShelb

Please visit Minna Krebs to see who all is posting! :)
The Story of Me Us The MilShelb

Though Mom is a big fan of adopting from local shelters and rescue groups (and even volunteered for a local rescue group when she had more free time), we were not adopted. We were given to our (people) parents by our (people) grandparents. You see, our (doggy) Mom, Missy, and our (doggy) Dad, Sport had us. They live with our (people) grandparents (our (people) Dad's parents). So, Dad got an email with pictures of "the puppies" and showed it to Mom. Mom just HAD to HAVE us! Well, she wanted one... but then she found out there were two girls and a boy and decided she wanted us both. So, Granny (our people Dad's Mom) gave us both to them. Mom was so excited to be getting us that she ran out and bought two of everything imaginable. You should have seen her room when we moved in. So, that's the background info... but, it is Thanksgiving and we want to talk about why we are thankful to be where we are.

We know that not everyone is as lucky as we are. We have always been loved. We were born in a home with people who loved us from even before we were born. We came into a world of love and cuddles and hugs and kisses. We have never known any different. We know that that makes us truly lucky, and we are truly thankful.

We are thankful for the simple things that we (being the bossy Dachshunds that we are) often take for granted. For example, we get to come in the house every night... for that matter, we're inside whenever we want to be and hanging out on the couch (or chair, bed, dog bed, sleeping bag, laps of our humans...).

We are thankful for always having food to eat... and lots of it! We know that not everyone knows where their next meal is coming from and we are thankful for food... and not just any food, but food that is good for us, too. Our Mom only feeds us the best.

We are thankful for our family. We have awesome aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. We love them and are so thankful that they love us, too... and put up with our Mom and Dad's crazy obsession with us.

We are thankful for each other. We are thankful to get to always be together. We are thankful that Mom and Dad took both of us and we got to stay together. We love each other so much and don't know what we'd do without each other!

Mostly, we are thankful for our parents. We are lucky to have parents who love us no matter what. We are lucky to have parents who feed us, bathe us, walk us, and even let us sleep in their bed... and under the covers. We are lucky to have parents who do what is best for us, even when it's not what is best for them. We are thankful to have parents who come home every night from work and drop to their knees and give us hugs and kisses.

You know, the strange thing is that Mom says she is the lucky one. She says they are the ones who are thankful for us. She says they thank God every single day for us... we think we're the lucky ones. We are thankful for people who are thankful for us.

  10. Well here's the thing. You're all lucky. It's no different from our family, even though we're rescues. When the right people and doggies find each other, everyone has reason to feel so lucky and thankful.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  12. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave words on my blog when I had my scary seizures. I am sure that all the good thoughts that came through the internets scared the seizure monster away and I am feeling great. All the wonderful comments also helped momma to feel less stressy and that means a lot.

  14. Oh Millie and Shelby,

You had Mommy crying when she read your story. How you explained what you are thankful for is what made her start leaking. She just wished that everybody had loving families to start their lives.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving & got to have some turkey.
