MilShelb in the Summer

Lately we've been spending our days here... on the office floor.
Mom has been working on stuff for school even though it's summer.

Shelby's been sleeping a ton. Occasionally she gets up and goes outside.
But let's face it folks, it's too dang hot out!

I've been laying on Mom's quilt and playing with my toys.
I go out sometimes, too, but it really it too hot.
It's supposed to be over 100 degrees today! YUCK!

Run Free Little Black Kitten

Mom is posting today:

Well, today was a busy day! I started out the day by working/volunteering at a yard sale to raise money for the animal rescue group I work for. I came home, ran some errands with the husband, and then we went out to the back yard to cook burgers.

The day went downhill from there. I saw something small and black near the back fence in our yard. I asked Jake if it was a cat and he said no that he thought it was a sock. Upon closer inspection we found that it was a kitten. He took Milly and Shelby in and I went over to the kitten. I touched it. (Honestly, I don't know why I touched it because I really thought it was dead and who goes around touching dead kittens?) It was not dead. It jumped up and climbed the tree next to me very quickly. I stood there talking to it trying to get it to come down. Of course, it wouldn't. Then, it jumped the fence to another fence (which belongs to the people behind us). I went inside and figured the cat was gone.
Jake said he heard it meowing and I climbed up on our fence (we have a privacy fence) to look over. The cat's leg was stuck in the top of the privacy fence that belongs to our neighbors. I tried to free the cat, but it bit me. I got Jake to get me a towel (he brought me a random sweater that was on the porch) and I put it around the cat and tried to free its leg. I couldn't get it free. Jake brought me a screw driver and I unscrewed the top of the fence and got its leg out.
Once I got down from the fence I could tell the cat was limp. It was still breathing, though. I took it out on the driveway and tried to give it some water. It just laid there. It was pitiful. I tried to cool it off and talked to it and pet it. It just kept laying there.
I ended up calling the president of the animal rescue group I volunteer for because I knew she would know what to do. She told me to put it in a carrier and bring it in the house in case it had overheated in the sweater. I did that. I put it in the bathroom. She came over and before she got there the cat ended up passing away. I am sad for the poor little guy/girl. :( Poor thing. I feel awful for it.
It makes me so upset that people do not spay/neuter their pets. This poor cat was suffering and there is no excuse for that. The president said that she is pretty sure it must have had flea anemia because its gums were so pale and it may have had intestinal parasites. I just feel awful for this cat. It breaks my heart.
So, in tribute to this sweet kitty.... run free over the bridge, sweet little black kitten. Run free.

Calling Dr. Mom

That dumb butt Shelby has been after my chipmunk since we got him at PetSmart last week! She got a fox and tore it up... so now she's after my chipmunk.
It's so bad that she woke Mom up in the middle of the night last night looking for it. Mom found him first and stuck him in a cabinet to keep him safe.
Shelby may look sweet... but she is viscous, I tell ya!

Shelby got a hold of him yesterday and put a hole in him. Mom had to stitch him up.
Today Shelby bit his leg off!! UGH!

Poor guy. He is looking pretty pitiful.

Here is the culprit, looking on as Mom sews him up.

Here I am keeping watch.

Mom is performing surgery.

"Are you almost done, Mom? It's taking so long!"
"Mil Girl, you know I am not really a doctor... or a seamstress."

"Thanks Mom! I'll keep him safe!

Last Night. YIKES!

So, last night I (the Shelby) woke up to Mom (I sleep at the top of the bed between Mom and Dad... until the alarm clock goes off and then I make a beeline for the end of the bed under the covers.) saying, "Jake" (that's my Dad's name) "Jake, do you hear that?!" (She was whispering this and gently shaking him.)
Nothing.
"Jake???"
Nothing.
(Another shake, not so gentle this time.) "Jake. Jake! Do you hear that?!"
(In a VERY grumpy voice:) "NO."
"You didn't even listen. Listen."
Nothing.
"Jake! Do you hear that?! Something or someone is in the house. Listen, please!"
(Now this whole time I am thinking if it was really something that was a big deal it would have already eaten us- right?)
So Dad turns on the light (there goes our cover) and says, "Hello?! Hello?!"
Nothing.

That's when we realize Milly is not on the bed.

"Milly?!"
We hear her toes clickity-clackin' on the floor.
Mom gets up (note that I said Mom, not Dad BOL!) and walks toward the noise. "Milly?"
Milly comes waltzing out of the office like no big deal. Mom starts fussing at her that she nearly gave them a heart attack and a few minutes later she comes back to bed telling Dad that Milly had gotten in a trash bag and licked the inside of the cheetos bag clean. BOL!

That Milly. She'll do anything for a midnight snack.

Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Dad, we've loved you "since the get". (Get-go, for those of you who don't speak "Dad".)
You've loved us since forever.
Mom says you are a good man. A real life good man. We agree.
Thank you for letting us sit on the couch... especially when we take your spot!
Thank you for cuddling with us.
Thank you for mowing the grass. We all know Mom wouldn't be caught dead doing that.
Thank you for being a silly, funny, goofy Dad.
Thanks for the kisses!
Thank you for being our Dad.
We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, Daddy Waddy... Daddy Wadderson.

Happy Father's Day, MilShelb Dad! We love you!

I Have Decided

I have decided to share my demands with you.

After what happened yesterday- being all alone, locked out, neglected, abandoned... you get the picture. Dad came home last night and told Mom about me calling his store numerous times to discuss my demands which include more allowance and a cell phone. He said we would discuss it as a family. I said, "Uh, Dad. That woman LOCKED ME OUT and left the house. I hardly think she counts as family anymore!" He told me I was being harsh, but slipped a few bills under the table. ;)
So, I am currently in deliberation for a cell phone (to use to call the police the next time good ol' forgetful/wacko Mom leaves me outside) and more allowance... to save to buy my own place! hahaha!!

Any other suggestions?

You'll NEVER Believe This!!

You will NEVER believe this!!

I am OUTRAGED!!!

Mom went to the store today and ran some errands... and was gone for TWO whole hours and left me OUTSIDE!!!!!! I am NOT an outside pup! What was she thinking?!?!

OUTRAGED!!!!

UGH!

I am one mad pup. MAD!

Note from Mom: I could have sworn Shelby was in the bed when I left the house, but apparently not. I got home and Milly came running to the door and said "Hey Mom!" and wagged her tail. Then all of the sudden I heard this awful crying, yelping bark from Shelby. I went running in the house thinking she was hurt... and she was outside! LOL! I could not believe I did that! Poor baby! I can only imagine the noise the neighbors endured while I was gone. After barking at me (like a mad dog) for about 5 full minutes I finally got her to calm down and eat a treat. Of course, after that all was well with the world.
