Last night Mom stayed up past her bedtime and read this blog. She was very sad and upset and concerned and scared. She said that she feels so bad for Iris and her persons. We do too!! She is also very concerned because we take Trifexis!! YIKES! Does anyone else take this? Mom said she is calling the vet to ask if it is safe because I (Shelby) get bad poopies after I take it and maybe it is not good for me. You know, I have lots of bad reactions to medicines. (I cannot take rabies shots because I am deathly allergic!) What kind of flea/heartworm do you take??? We cannot have a topical flea med because it bothers Mil's skin because she is allergic to flea saliva (among other things) and has very sensitive skin.
Mom would like any and all suggestions and she said please go read that blog!!
OMD OMD... HOW SAD. I believe this is the the new Combo heartworm/flea prevention thingy.
ReplyDeleteI take them seperately. One on one day and the other the NEXT day.
My mom will NOT allow our vet to give us more than ONE vaccination per visit... She would rather drive the 36 miles and pay the extra visit price than let us have them all at once.
THANKS for this WARNING!!!
That is fury scary and terrible too. What Frankie said! Yep, that is just how my Mom does it to!

We just went to visit Iris' family. This is terrible news and we're so sorry.
ReplyDeleteWe all take Iverheart Plus as a heartworm preventive. We won't use any flea/tick products directly on the dogs. Instead we have a professional pest spraying company spray the dogs' yard every 3 months. So far we haven't had any flea or tick problems and I check them carefully once a week to be sure they aren't carrying any passengers on them. So far..so good. Every once in a while one of the dogs gets tummy problems a day or two after taking the Iverhart but it's never the same dog and it doesn't happen every month, so I don't know if it's affecting them or not. I wish I didn't have to give them any kind of preventive for anything. As far as I'm concerned, everything you put in or on your dog to kill something else is also toxic to the dog.
That is terribly sad and so scary. I need my heart worm pill in a week and Mom picked up this med. After reading this post she looked it up. I will NOT be taking that!!! No way!
ReplyDeleteSide effects include though are not limited to: hypersensitivity, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, tremors, weight loss, lethargy, salivation, BLINDNESS, and SEIZURES!! Mom found a medical report saying 1 in 4 dogs has a seizure from this medicine.
Stay Safe,
Dachshund Nola
Thanks for the warning! We need to keep each other aware and safe!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
That is so sad. We don't get a flea preventative, only heartworm, and that's only during the warm months, not year round. Our Mom does not like the topical flea preventatives at all, she said she does not like putting poison on us so close to our brains. She said that as long as we eat really good food and our immune systems are strong and healthy, then the fleas will not be attracted to us. Also, we are mostly indoor dogs, we only go out for our walkies. So far, we have not had one flea problem at all (knock on wood!)
